Hi All
I firstly need to say a big thank you to Hamish and Donovan, our two
speakers at the April WOSSAT meeting. And of course thanks to everyone
who came along, asked questions and contributed to the discussions.
Following Donovan's talk on Keybase, I've set up a WOSSAT "team". It's
an open team so you can join without needing admin approval. Feel free
to try out the secure chat channel: https://keybase.io/team/wossat
If you missed the meeting, our web site includes a link to our YouTube
channel where you can find recordings: https://wossat.nz/
Thanks to Karen for the camera work and also to Kristina for the
editing.
The next meeting will be on Thursday the 17th of May.
That's right *Thursday*. We're going to try out alternating between
the 3rd Tuesday and the 3rd Thursday of the month. This allows us to
include people who have a conflicting Tuesday commitment. So if you've
invited friends or colleagues in the past and they couldn't make it,
consider sharing this message with them to let them know.
At the May meeting, Martin Kraftt will be speaking about matrix.org. He
provided me with this teaser for hi talk:
Martin will be talking about matrix.org, which is a Free,
federated chat protocol sometimes dubbed XMPP 2.0. It has built-in
end-to-end encryption, rich media support, video and voice
conferencing abilities, as well as integrations with tools such as
Etherpad, and bridges to other protocols, including IRC, XMPP,
Gitter, and Slack. It's very well designed, and a number of
clients exist, including the polished and usable Riot messenger,
so there really isn't an excuse any more, why you shouldn't rescue
your friends out of the walled gardens.
There will be at least one other talk. I'm still finalising the
details, so check the web site to stay informed.
See you in May.
